Pool Demolition in Melbourne, FL
A Melbourne pool job is usually decided by the backyard, not a county-wide menu. Fill-in vs. full shell removal, a five-foot side yard, a cage you may or may not keep, and a pool builder who wants a new hole, those are the calls we make on site. City of Melbourne permit, demo, and haul-off in one job.

Melbourne backyards, not a county clone
Fill-in or full demo, which does a Melbourne yard need?
We already published a county-wide pool page for Brevard. This one is Melbourne-specific: City of Melbourne paperwork, Eau Gallie and downtown access, Wickham and US-1 mid-century lots, and the gap between what a replacement pool contractor sells and what actually gets the old vessel out of the ground.
Fill-in (partial removal) is the default when you want the water gone and the yard back, grass, a patio, a play area. We break the top of the shell, open drainage in the bottom, backfill, and compact so you are not living over a soft spot. Full removal pulls the entire shell and all the material off the lot. That is the cleaner site if you are building an addition on that footprint or putting a new pool in the same hole. It also needs more machine room, which a lot of Melbourne yards simply do not have.
What we handle in Melbourne
Pool demolition this page is for
- Gunite, concrete, fiberglass, and vinyl-liner pools inside Melbourne city limits
- Fill-in with drainage, backfill, and compaction for yard or patio
- Full shell removal when you are building or replacing on the same footprint
- Screen enclosures, cages, decks, and coping, in or out, on the quote
- Tight side yards: compact machine or controlled break from the street
- City of Melbourne demolition permit and legal C&D haul-off
What don’t replacement pool contractors handle?
Pool builders are in the new-pool business. A line item that says “demo existing” on a replacement bid is often a sub, a skip, or a hole left in a condition that only works if they come back with a new vessel. That is a problem if you are not buying a new pool.
What they typically do not do, and what we do:
- The City of Melbourne demolition permit. Removing a pool is a demo job, not a pool-construction permit. Property records can change. We pull the demolition paperwork.
- Legal haul-off of the old shell. Gunite and concrete are construction debris. They go to a permitted facility. They do not get buried as “fill” and forgotten under a new deck.
- Compaction for a lawn, not a new pool. A builder wants a hole. A homeowner who is done with water wants stable ground. Those are different backfills.
- The cage you are not replacing. Screen enclosures and lanais are a demolition scope. If you are not buying a new cage, the old one still has to come down and leave the lot.
- Equipment, plumbing, and electric to the pad. Pump, filter, heater, and lines have to be pulled or capped. That is disconnect work, not a pool-sales accessory.
If you are replacing the pool, still get demo scoped as its own job. Then the hole, the haul-off, and the permit are a date and a price, not a vague allowance inside a construction contract. We leave the site in the condition the next contractor asked for. We do not sell you a new pool.
How does lot access change a Melbourne pool job?
Access is why Melbourne is not a copy of a county fill-vs-full explainer. Downtown and Eau Gallie lots are often narrow, with mature trees, close neighbors, and a cage that blocks the only rear opening. Mid-century streets off Wickham Road and US-1 were not drawn for an excavator in the side yard. Canal and river-adjacent parcels add a rear you cannot stage from.
We walk it before we quote. Can a compact machine reach the shell, or is this a controlled break working from the street? Where does the haul truck sit? Does the cage have to come down first just to get to the water? A wide West Melbourne-adjacent lot is one job. A five-foot side yard with a live oak and a neighbor’s AC is another. Tight lots take longer and take more protection. That shows up in the number, honestly, instead of as a change order on day two.
If the pool is only one piece of a larger Melbourne clear, old pad, leftover slab, a shed in the way, we can fold the concrete into concrete removal in Melbourne or the lot into site clearing.
Do I need a City of Melbourne permit to remove a pool?
Yes. Pool removal inside Melbourne city limits generally runs through the City of Melbourne Building Department, not the county office. It is a demolition permit, with proper backfill and compaction, and it can affect how the pool is carried on the property record. We handle that paperwork as part of the job.
That is a different path than an unincorporated Brevard parcel or a Palm Bay address. If your lot sits just outside city limits, say so when you call, we pull from whichever office actually has jurisdiction. The county-wide version of the trade, without the Melbourne access and builder-gap focus, lives on pool demolition in Brevard County.
For how demolition permits work across the patchwork of Brevard offices, see the permits guide.
On the Melbourne lot
What happens after we say fill or pull?
Walk access first
Side yard, cage, trees, canal, where the truck sits. Fill-in vs. full shell is often decided here, not on a photo.
City permit and disconnects
City of Melbourne demolition permit, equipment and electric pulled or capped, so the backyard job is actually legal.
Demo, haul, compact
Shell broken or pulled, debris hauled as C&D, backfill compacted if you are keeping a yard. Site left usable, not a hole.
What should a Melbourne backyard look like when we leave?
If we filled: drainage in the remaining shell, compacted fill, a surface you can sod or patio, not a dish that ponds after a summer storm. If we pulled the shell: material off the property, the hole gone, grade ready for the next trade. Cage and deck gone if they were in the quote. Haul-off is not a favor. It is the job.
We carry general liability and workers' compensation and can send a certificate of insurance before we start. We do not pour new pools, we do not sell cages, and we do not leave you to argue with a builder about who owns the old gunite.
Same-week starts are typical once the quote is approved and the permit is in hand. Call (321) 248-5255. Open daily 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
